The most historic spot in Gouda

The historic center of Gouda is nearly car-free, so it is best to park your car at Klein Amerika parking lot, approximately a 6-minute walk away. If you arrive before 17:00, please check in at the adjacent building of the souvenir shop ‘Jantje zag eens pruimen hangen.’ Our welcome team will assist you with check-in and accompany you to het Hofje. If you arrive after 17:00, you can use the pin code provided to you before your visit to enter het Hofje. We’ll ensure everything is prepared for your arrival and look forward to welcoming you later during your stay at ‘Jantje zag eens pruimen hangen’; our terrace is located next to your front door!

The rooms

An entirely private canal house.

Het Hofje van Sint Jan consists of 4 residential levels and is only available as an entirely private canal house for group bookings. You will never share it with others.

Ground floor

On the ground floor, you will find a luxurious kitchen with a spacious dining table. Ideal for enjoying a delightful breakfast or spending time in good company. This space also features a television and sitting area..

First floor

This is truly the master bedroom, with one of the most beautiful views when you open the curtains in the morning. This bedroom also has a very luxurious private bathroom.

Second floor

On this floor, there is a spacious double bedroom consisting of a double bed with its own kitchen and bar setup. Having your own breakfast or drinks here? It’s possible!

Attic room

In the attic room, the original beams of the building are still present, creating a cozy sleeping environment. This space features two separate beds and a private bathroom.

Het Hofje van Sint Jan collaborates with ‘Jantje zag eens pruimen hangen,’ young people with intellectual disabilities who face challenges in the job market. With great passion and genuine hospitality, these young individuals make a difference during your stay in Gouda.

Booking and rules

Given the facilities of the property, you have the flexibility to choose your preferences regarding breakfast, snack platters, or other catering options. You can indicate your preferences optionally when booking or during check-in, and the boys and girls of JZEPH will ensure it’s ready for you in het Hofje. Of course, het Hofje is equipped with clean towels, bed linens, and a bottle of wine upon arrival. For multi-day bookings, you can specify when you’d like the linens to be changed.

Het Hofje van Sint Jan is an excellent base for exploring Gouda and the surrounding region. Located in the most beautiful spot in the old center with a wide range of restaurants, shops, and the Gouda market. Explore ‘Het Groene Hart’ by bike, or take a trip to nearby cities such as Oudewater, Utrecht, Rotterdam, or The Hague.

We regret to inform you that group bookings for individuals under the age of 25 are not permitted due to the potential for noise disturbance; this is also a condition of our granted permit. Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption are also not allowed, and staying outside after 22:00 is not possible due to the surroundings. Unfortunately, het Hofje is not wheelchair accessible.
